Goliath is designed
for competition in Mindstorms sumo. It features a strong chassis and
uses treads instead of wheels for both power and traction across the
length of the robot.
Two light sensors
monitor which corner of the robot came across the ring and responds
accordingly. On the other hand, an ultrasonic sensor monitors for
any trouble that is behind the robot.
During a match, the
robot actively logs what it experiences during the round. It logs
how many times it has detected the edge of the ring and when it did
(to estimate total time in a round) and also what round that data
was recorded in.
When not used for
sumo it has a removable Zamor launcher with a HiTechnic IR receiver
sensor that is used with a Power Functions remote so it can be
operated remotely.
